Project WILD Aquatic K-12 Curriculum
and Activity Guide emphasizes aquatic wildlife and
aquatic ecosystems. Each is organized in topic units
and is based on the Project WILD conceptual framework.
Because these materials are designed for integration
into existing courses of study, instructors may use
one or many Project WILD activities or the entire
set of activities may serve quite effectively as
the basis for a course of study.
Each Project WILD activity contains all the information needed to conduct
that activity including objectives, method, background information,
a list of materials needed, procedures, evaluation suggestions, recommended
grade levels, subject areas, duration, group size, setting, and key
terms. A glossary is provided, as well as a cross-reference by topics
and skills.

Project Learning Tree, which the Department of Education sponsors in
cooperation with DCNR's Bureau of Forestry, focuses on the natural
world, with an emphasis in forest resources. The major aspect of the
program is teacher training with an emphasis on "hands on" education.
Several thousand teachers are trained each year, and many colleges
and universities require all education majors to receive some exposure
to the project.

Project WILD is one of the most widely-used
conservation and environmental education programs
among educators of students in kindergarten through
high school.
Project WILD is based on the premise that young people and educators
have a vital interest in learning about our natural world.
The program emphasizes wildlife because
of its intrinsic and ecological values, as well as
its importance as a basis for teaching how ecosystems
function. In the face of competing needs and pressures
affecting the quality and sustainability of life
on earth, Project WILD addresses the need for human
beings to develop as responsible citizens of our
planet.

WOW!
The Wonder of Wetlands |
|
WOW!: The Wonders Of Wetlands is an acclaimed, comprehensive, interdisciplinary
curriculum guide for educators of grade levels K-12. The latest edition,
co-published in 1995 by Environmental
Concern and The Watercourse (Bozeman, MT), includes more than
50 fun and effective learning-activities for both indoor and outdoor
use. These activities focus on the three definitive wetland parameters:
water, soil, and plants; there are animal-oriented exercises as well.
Equally important, the user is given
extensive background information on wetlands and
a glossary of terms, either within, or cross-referenced
with, the activities. The 330 page guide also contains
some basic ideas for wetland enhancement, restoration,
and construction, and a listing of other educational
wetland resources. It is currently in use throughout
the United States and in several other countries.
EC also offers teacher and leadership
training workshops to support the use of WOW!. Since
1991, nearly 5000 participants in more than 30 states
have attended WOW! workshops, which vary from a few
hours to one and half days in length.
Now correlated to the National Science
Education Standards.
